Dentistry isn’t the same now as it was 35 years ago. At the time, medical technology was just starting to enter its adolescence, and many doctors – regardless of specialty – were struggling to keep up with the changing of the times. One exception was a young “up start” doctor named Ron Schefdore.

In dental school, Dr. Schefdore was known among many teachers as an “agitator”. He was the kind of student that was very willing to question standard practices and inform other classmates about medical advances that would come to reshape the dental field. Although being out-spoken in those early days, he still graduated as the President of his class; much to the chagrin of a few older faculty members. It was his enthusiasm for dentistry, and this passion for scientific advancement, that gave birth to the cutting-edge practice that is Celebrity Smiles.

Dr. Schefdore began his meteoric rise to professional prominence by being one of the first dentists in the nation to utilize revolutionary new dental techniques and materials in order to provide his patients with “One Day Smile Makeovers”. Using porcelain veneers and his own artistic skill, he quickly was able to make a name for himself as not only a field-leading general dentist, but also as a highly popular cosmetic dentist. His reputation continued to grow as he became an authoritative voice in dental science, even servicing several celebrities.

Having seemingly reached the apex of his field, in the year 2000 Dr. Schefdore was looking for a new challenge. Wanting to balance his love of dentistry with the need to continually advance his field, he began speaking and teaching other dentists on a myriad of health-related topics. Again, he was successful.

While touring the country, educating his peers and sharing his experiences, Dr. Schefdore gradually began talking about subjects that were – at the time – rather taboo, but today are seen as the highest standards of dental care. His “pet cause” was something known as the Oral-Systemic Connection.

Dr. Schefdore was one of the first to theorize that the body works more as a unified mechanism, rather than a collection of parts. Advocating the concept of “total wellness”, Dr. Schefdore showed his fellow doctors the heights that they could take their profession by offering support for the entire body, not just the mouth. Through his emphasis on the early detection of serious diseases (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.), nutritional support, and preventative dental-health measures though oral health care, he began a movement that inspired thousands of medical professionals to question old-world thinking. His contributions to medical science did not go unnoticed.

From 2000 until recently, Dr. Schefdore educated thousands of dentists and released over 50 articles and studies, earning him the praise of his peers. His speaking engagements were often given awards based on his student’s reviews. His work at Celebrity Smiles & General Dentistry has been featured regularly in prominent publications such as Dentistry Today, The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Readers Digest, and Prevention Magazine. He has also been featured as THE dental expert on informative television programming for channels such as CBS, NBC, FOX, and others. This culminated in the publication of his book, Better Service, Better Dentistry which has become a common fixture on the book-shelves of dentists across the US.

For the past 10 years, Dr. Schefdore has chosen to focus more on the patients within his own practice; personally seeing to the health care needs of all patients of Celebrity Smiles & General Dentistry. He has been recognized – almost yearly – for his service to the Westmont and Downers Grove area. Also, Schefdore has been lauded by peers as a member of the “Top 5% of American Professionals” since 2014.
